March 2009 - Agile Best Practices In Business Intelligence

Sandra Wennemers and Maurice Driessen wil be doing a talk at DAMA 2009 BI Wednesday, that takes place at the IBM Forum in Brussels on March 25th in the afternoon. The event is organized by DAMA BeLux

During this interactive session Sandra and Maurice will demonstrate how agile software development matches data warehouse development projects, and show how UML modelling techniques can be used in planning and designing such projects. In particular, a requirements technique called smart use cases is used to define not only reporting and analysis, but also ETL, covering up to 80% of data warehouse projects.
This presentation will address the following key questions :
  • What is agile software development? What are its best practices?
  • How can agile software development help me improve my data warehouse projects?
  • What are smart use cases and how do I model smart use cases?
  • How do I estimate and plan my data warehouse projects using smart use cases?

===Summer 2008 - ADP in India===
Article "ADB Bootcamp – Realizing Industrialization across NL BU" from Capgemini India Newsletter.

With Capgemini’s vision for the year 2008 as the execution year for the i3 Industrialization program, the Netherlands Business Unit is not one to be left behind. The i3 has already been kicked off for NL with the ADP (Accelerated Delivery Platform) inaugural boot camp for the Capgemini employees at Mumbai.

The three day inaugural session for ADP witnessed the employees traversing new horizons in terms of agile and RAD methodologies, guided by the expertise of Robert de Wolff in implementing ADP across various delivery centers.
That conventional methodologies work, and work well is a proven fact. But what separates ADP from the rest is the fact that ADP works better, and faster. The platform, developed from the culmination of almost a decade of Best Practices, is naturally a product of the Best of Breed and has been successfully implemented in Netherlands for scores of projects. The aim of ADP is to streamline the entire SDLC process so that projects get executed efficiently with minimum deviations and jerks.

Smart estimation session in Mumbai

The session was marked with enthusiasm among the employees as they realized the smarter and faster way of executing all phases of SDLC. The richness and effectiveness of the session lied in the fact that it was supported by real time scenarios and extensive hands on exercises. That there was a lot of fun and games involved during the course was the Cherry on top of the Pie. To quote one of the attendees of the inaugural session on his experience – “I liked the program very much because of the fact that it was highly interactive and involved continuous feedback to make it better with each passing minute”.

With the Mumbai session a grand success, Robert reached out to a wider audiences to spread the ADP message. The Capgemini Kolkata NL outfit, which has recently grown to a substantial stature in terms of quality resources, also updated with the ADP knowledge during the ADP Bootcamp in Kolkata.

  • ===November 2007 - Integration of newly developed components into ADF===
    Today we started integrating extentions, which were developed at DFZ, into the ADF. The following items will be integrated:
  • Smart Panel. This is the flexible UI solution that will be available besides the less flixible CompoundPanel.
  • SmartWebValidationHandler. A new and more user friendly way of presenting errors in the UI. It cam be used in two different ways. One to show a nice error block above the panel with all the error messages for each control that has an error and another one to have an error indicator behind the control that has the error. The control that has the error has a red border to highlight it.
  • Strong Typed SmartReference. A new type that makes it possible to create an empty SmartReference of a specific type.
  • Tobago Templates. A set of new templates to have Tobago generate code to use the newly integrated components.

    June 2007 - Guest lecture at Hogeschool Amsterdam

    Students at the Hogeschool van Amsterdam (HvA) are working on a project for a conglomerate of Dutch housing corporations. In this projects they will have to do the design and implementation of the desired functionality using Java open source frameworks. Getting stuck on software architecture of both their framework and their application, Sander Hoogendoorn was invited to present a guest lecture. In this interactive lecture Sander presented a range of patterns that will help structure the students work. These patterns also underly the Accelerated Delivery Framework (ADF). In their feedback, the students have already asked Sander to return to Amsterdam in the fall, for a successive lecture.
